Part II of my last post. Also, about 10 months ago I took my first sexy heels class with instructor, Kafi Payne, at Dogpatch Dance & Yoga in San Francisco.
Fast-forward to my most recent class taken at In the Groove Studios in Oakland with instructor, Chelsea Martin. Read my short blurb on my Instagram post about confidence growth, a mind stronger than ever, and overcoming retention block.
Although of course you can always do better, be proud of your accomplishments, no matter how little or large they are. I am proud of how in-tune I was with my body and how incredibly sexy I felt while dancing. The key difference between my first class to now is that in my first class, I was completely aware that I needed to convey “sexy”. Aware, yes, but delivery? Not so much. I was far too concerned balancing on my heels, preventing from falling smack down on my face, overcoming my nerves, and retaining the choreography. Ya’ll, it may be slow choreography, but trust me, it’s challenging a craft. Sexy dance in heels requires upper/lower body strength, core, balance, flexibility, agility, and mind and body coordination. It really is a perfect workout.
I won’t go into too much in this post as I shared most of my journey in my last post. Check it out! I mostly wanted to share my milestones and encourage you to keep going along your own journey, whether that’s in dance or other great challenges in your life. I hope that by openly sharing my journey you feel empowered to take life by the horns and ride the shit out of it.
The growth over the past 10 months have been fun, challenging, and a path I’m so very happy and so sure about. Self-reflection, constructive criticism, being humble, and staying hungry — or in my case, staying hangry — are key drivers to growth. Remember though, don’t over reflect on past experiences. A big piece of advice I give to my dance friends is to record their dances all they want, but absolutely DO NOT overwatch your own videos. Again, self-reflection is great but watching too much of your own videos leaves the door open to over criticize yourself. Ain’t no one have time for that. Key word – GROWTH!
I’m super grateful to be surrounded by some amazing instructors who pass down their wisdom with all their passion to their students. The growth I’ve seen in myself are apparent but it doesn’t stop there. So much more to learn. Here, I show you two videos. Two examples of what growth look like from a flat pair of sneakers point of view to a bold, 5-inch pair of heels angle, too. All-in-all, it’s all growth.
