Cardio Hip-hop
Every Monday at 4:30pm and 7:30pm, Friday at 8:00am, Saturday at 10:30am
Dance Style:
- Hip-hop infused with contemporary, modern, and jazz
- Blend of sassy and hard-hitting movements and occasionally portraying the “gangsta” persona. Technical movements with emphasis on intricate arm and hand coordination, and balance.
“Have fun. Live. Your. Life.” – Walker Fisher
Experience Level: Recommend for beginners who have taken at least 1-2 dance fitness classes previously. Also, it’s great for intermediate to advanced levels for those looking for a fun dance fitness workout.
- Although Walker’s class is open to all levels, I personally recommend his class to those who have taken at least 1-2 dance fitness classes previously. BUT, don’t be afraid to be bold! If it’s your first time, go in with a positive attitude, do your best to keep up, don’t stress, have fun, and kill it!
- Walker has a broad range of dance experience and you will see hip-hop, contemporary, modern, and jazz infused in his choreography.
- With this amazing blend, I am confident you will get the mental and physical challenge that you are looking for. For sure a nice, sweaty workout, and a new and innovative choreography in each and every one of his class (unless he communicates to the class that he will be repeating choreography in his next class, which is an awesome opportunity to master the choreography and kick ass!).
Music:
- Electronic, high-energy
- Pop
- Top 10
- Hip-hop
Size of Class:
- Monday’s at 4:30pm: Surprisingly full. Not full enough to the point where you will need to sign up for the wait-list, but I was pretty shocked at the amount of people who were able to show up during this workday, albeit Friday, time slot. Can feel like anywhere from 25-35 people. Good people to studio ratio. Enough room to dance but still a full class.
- Monday’s at 7:30pm: (Review to come at a later time. Have not attended this time-slot.
- Friday’s at 8:00am: Very open: From the handful of times I have taken his morning classes, at least for now, I can say you won’t ever need to sign-up for the wait-list. His class is amazing but it’s during the work week and it may be challenging for people to make it out. Can feel like 7-15 people. Very open and you will have all the space to dance your heart out.
Wait-list:
- For all of Walker’s classes, I have never experienced the need to sign-up for a wait-list (thank goodness!). Not to discredit Walker’s talent and the enjoyment you’ll experience in his class because I assure you, you will have fun. Although, I would keep an eye out for the possibility of his Saturday, 10:30am and Monday, 4:30pm classes to potentially have the wait-list pop up in the near future.
Attendance
- Consistent in attendance. Rarely requires a sub-instructor for his class.
- Arrives early and will greet clients as a group at the start of class.
Video Recording:
- Yes, he is very open to video recording and if you ask him, he will join and dance in the video with you. From the classes I have taken, he does not formally ask the entire class if they want to do a video. If you’re interested, you will have to ask before or after class.
Why I’m addicted:
- Mentally and physically challenging choreography
- New and innovative choreography each time I see him (unless communicated to class that he will repeat choreography)
- Mix of varying dance styles including freestyle and technical movements
- Instructor is super kind, sassy, and radiates awesome bad ass-ery!
- Dimmed lights
Pros:
- Instructor is a talented dancer and has a broad range of experience, so his choreography allows you to push your own boundaries.
- Consistent – Rarely have seen him miss and require a sub for his class. In fact, I noticed he subs for other instructors during various holidays throughout the year. Great time to try him out if you are unable to take him at his normal scheduled times.
- He is super fierce and you can feel his genuine kindness. Allows for a very welcoming environment even if it’s your first class.
Cons:
- Possible con for first-timers and those with absolutely no dance experience. His choreography is really fun but may come across as fast-paced and technical for those with no dance experience.
Recommendation:
- Those without any dance experience, I suggest to take 1-2 dance fitness classes prior to trying Walker’s class. Although, if you’re eager to try him, be bold, don’t take yourself to seriously, have fun, and go for it!
