Cardio Hip-hop

Every Wednesday at 6:30pm and 7:30pm

Dance Style:

  • Hints of beginner B-boy/B-gal movements (If you’re worried about performing B-boy/B-gal movements, don’t worry. They’re easy to mimic or “fake it”. Most of the class is noticeably uncomfortable with performing this style but it’s cool seeing everyone challenge their abilities. Keep dancing and don’t trip! The only person really looking is yourself :))
  • Mix and balance of smooth and hard-hitting popping movements

“Fake it ‘til you make it” – Jazon Escultura

Experience Level: Good for Beginner-Intermediate

  • Jazon’s class generally accommodates beginner-intermediate levels.
  • However, it’s great for any experience level and anyone looking for a good cardio workout through dance. You will definitely sweat!
  • His moves are easy to follow but he throws in some moves that will mentally challenge you. It’s the perfect balance of physical and mental challenge for beginner to intermediate levels.

Music:

  • Top 10
  • 90’s
  • Hip-hop / Rap
  • R&B, Rock/Alternative (Rare, but I have heard this once or twice during cool down.)

Size of Class:

  • Wednesday’s at 6:30pm: Crowded – Typically can feel like 30-40 people in the class. Limited spacing to dance but you make it work with smaller movements.
  • Wednesday’s at 7:30pm: Full – Typically can fee like 25-35 people. Good people to studio ratio. Enough room to dance but still a full class.

Wait-list:

  • Both his Wednesday 6:30pm and 7:30pm classes tend to become full. Once the class has reached capacity, they have a wait-list where you could sign up. Whether you sign up for the wait-list or in-person, you will be told what wait-list number you are.

Attendance:

  • Consistent in attendance. Rarely requires a sub-instructor for his class.
  • Punctual and arrives early to greet clients at the front desk.

Video Recording:

  • Yes, he allows video recording. However, I have never seen him perform with the clients in the class. He’s happy to video record groups who are interested though.

Why I’m addicted:

  • Instructor is crazy, just kidding. He has crazy energy that encourages you to keep going strong throughout intervals of the class.
  • Natural performing charisma
  • Cardio-intense
  • Choreography and vibe of the class allows you to put your own style into the movements versus more technical instruction
  • Dimmed lights

Pros:

  • Crazy energy from the instructor and is permeated throughout the class
  • Consistent – From the ridiculous amount of times I’ve taken Jazon’ class, he’s only been absent and needed a substitute instructor once and that’s because he had a Nutcracker performance.

Cons:

  • Not necessarily a con to Jazon, but more like a recommendation to you. His 6:30pm classes tend to become full, which means you’ll need to sign up for the wait-list. Generally, there are about 8 wait-list spots available. You will be notified via email typically the day before or the day of the class. If you have not received notification by email, you can call the studio for an update, or you can chance it by arriving early to the studio, but entrance to his class is not guaranteed.

Recommendation:

  • Specifically for his 6:30pm class only, book your spot at least 2-3 days in advance to avoid signing up for the wait-list.
  • If you end up on the wait-list, it’s typically a safe bet that you’ll get into the class if you are 1-6 out of the 8 spots available. But lookout for an email, call the studio, and arrive 15 minutes early.
  • If you like dancing in the front row or a specific area in the class, arrive 15 minutes early and wait outside of the class to get the spot that you want.
